Golconda, Nevada, is a small unincorporated community located in Humboldt County, about 20 miles from Winnemucca in the northwestern part of the state. It has a rich history dating back to the mining boom of the late 19th century but is now a quiet rural town with a small population. Golconda was founded in the late 1800s during a mining boom in the region. Mining for copper, silver, and gold initially drew settlers and at its peak in the early 1900s, Golconda had hotels, saloons, stores, and even a post office.
Today Golconda is mostly residential, with some nearby ranching and light industry. Nearby natural features include the Sonoma Range and Paradise Valley. Some modern mining operations still exist in the surrounding area, but not within the town itself. The Golconda Summit on I-80 is a well-known landmark near the area.
