According to geologists, placer gold deposits are present in nearly every creek in this Rocky Mountain area. This area in particular is surrounded by gold-bearing creeks, including North Supply Creek. The area once prospected by early settlers, the area creeks are still considered to contain placer gold. There are some nice, large bends in the creek making for excellent gold catching areas. Our claims here are located on the historical Stillwater Pass, a maintained road thru the Rocky Mountains, a drive known for its natural beauty. The Pass allows for easy access into the wilderness. Known as a snowmobiling area in the Winter. Stillwater Pass is an easily accessible route that connects Granby to Highway 125. As you gain elevation, you will be awarded with beautiful views from the roadside of the peaks in the distance as well as the roadside wildflowers and wildlife. The area is a very popular OHV area and has many recreational trails along the entire route including the most popular; the Lost Lake Trail. For most of the trail, you will be near rivers and creeks, and there is a lot of wildlife in the area. There is evidence of black bear, moose, elk and deer in the area and moose are in the area. At the bottom of the west side of the pass, the Vagabond Ranch is located at Waypoint 21. The area near the Vagabond Ranch was a hunting ground for the Ute and Arapahoe Indians. At the conflux of Bill Creek and Willow Creek is said to be a sacred ground for the Ute Indians. In the 1800's, the site was used as a stagecoach stop on the route from North Park, WY to Middle Park, CO. There are remains from Gilsonite mining in the area, and the Gilsonite Trail was perhaps the route that the miners used to go to and from the mines. The claim has a large meadow with the creek running thru it adding to the beauty of this claim. Our claims here are near Apiatan Mountain, which is known as a source for placer gold that is then deposited into Stillwater Creek from the Winter snowfall thaw. There is a nice cleared camping spot on a side road off of the main claim road. The bends in the creek make for excellent gold catching areas. Stillwater Campground on Grand Lake is also nearby. Grand County has a number of beautiful lakes. The area also has two state wildlife areas, with great opportunities for wildlife viewing.
