TOPOGRAPHY, RANGELAND & HABITAT Consistent with the blended ecosystems of this area, there is a diverse array of habitat types on this ranch. Throughout the ranch there are great Oak mottes with larger oaks as well as large areas of hackberries and elms in the drainages of Copano Creek and its tributaries. Nutrient rich mixed brush is scattered throughout the ranch providing valuable forage for the native game species. In the prairie regions of the ranch, quail lanes are mowed in the native grasses annually for running dogs. A key feature of the ranch is the 50 +/- acre wetland which is loaded with waterfowl in the winter months. WILDLIFE The Copano Creek Ranch has exceptional native wildlife abundance and diversity. The ranch is currently under MLD for an extended management season of the abundant population of deer. The trophy quality on the ranch is very good and could be enhanced with a feeding program. In the more open areas of the ranch, there are quail lanes mowed for running bird dogs. This year, the owner ran dogs a handful of times and had great hunts. There is an abundance of Turkeys with the several roost locations and abundant water on the ranch. To top off the attraction, there is a 50 acre wetland that holds great amounts of ducks in the winter months. The wetland is suitable for several blind locations and wind locations. Along with the above mentioned, the dove hunting can be very good over tanks and around the croton fields in the fall. IMPROVEMENTS The ranch facilities include a mobile home, a new large equipment barn, covered cooking and seating area and walk in cooler. WATER There are 3 water wells on site. The keystone water feature of the ranch is the 50 acre waterfowl impoundment on the northern portion of the ranch. There are also several ponds scattered throughout the ranch for quality water distribution. On the western portion of the property, Copano Creek runs and provides riparian habitat with large oaks, hackberries and elms.
