Located on Idaho's Camas Prairie at roughly 3,500 feet elevation, Cottonwood, ID enjoys four true seasons with warm, dry summers and crisp, snowy winters. With moderate precipitation, a long growing season, and fertile soils, the area supports productive ranching and agriculture. The setting combines wide-open prairie views with nearby mountains, forests, and the Salmon River canyon.
History
Founded in 1862, Cottonwood began as a way station for miners traveling to the goldfields of Florence and Warrens. The town is named after the dense cottonwood trees that once lined Cottonwood Creek. In 1877, it was the site of the Battle of Cottonwood during the Nez Perce War, where Chief Joseph's band engaged U.S. forces in a strategic retreat. Today, Cottonwood honors its rich heritage through landmarks like the Monastery of St. Gertrude, established in 1907, and the James V. and Sophia Baker House, built in 1916.
The Salmon River flows through a swath of Idaho country that is wild and rugged. It originates in the Sawtooth Range of the Stanley Basin and the canyon itself has some of the oldest minerals visible anywhere on earth, turning and winding in all directions through Idaho towards its confluence with the Snake River. The river earned its name The River of No Return for its wilderness and roadless section spanning a large piece of Idaho from Salmon to Riggins, ID. Early Pioneers built sweep boats that served as the supply line into the canyon but upon reaching their destination there was no way to return back to the starting point, with no roads and the powerful river, these boats would then be disassembled and used for lumber. Hence the name River of No Return. Lewis and Clark came across the river in 1805 but found it to be too rough to navigate due to the daunting canyon walls and dangerous rapids. In the 1860s gold was found and the rush began. Many historic and present-day mines can be seen while traveling along the Salmon River.
Location
Nestled in north-central Idaho on the scenic Camas Prairie, Cottonwood serves as a charming gateway to the rugged beauty of Idaho County. Bear Creek is located within the Boise Basin, one of Idaho's most historically productive gold mining areas. Many creeks and rivers in the Boise Basin, including those like Bear Creek, have a high probability of containing gold flakes. Gold discoveries in the Boise Basin in 1862 spurred a major gold rush, establishing towns and mining districts. The Boise Basin is particularly known for placer gold deposits, which are gold deposits found in creeks and riverbeds.
Bear Creek is a tributary of the North Fork Boise River a known gold river.
The claim is located in the Boise Mountains with spectacular peaks, beautiful forests,
and clear running streams and rivers.
This area called the Boise Basin, where this claim is located, was one of the richest gold mining districts in the nation after the discovery of gold in 1862.
Today prospectors are very active in finding the gold that was left behind.
Owning a mining claim is having access to a lifetime of great family fun and recreation, in a very beautiful, natural setting.
We feel we are selling more than the gold and minerals on beautiful land.
You would be acquiring an experience that will give you a good feel for what the old time prospectors must have felt during the days of the original Montana Gold Rush.
A mining claim is an affordable way to enjoy the beauty of the land combined with the adventure of panning for gold.
National Forests remained open at all times during the virus with a televised invitation by the Director for families to visit them as safe places for family recreation, making our mining claims some of the safest places for your family to enjoy and get away from all the nonsense.

IDAHO ROCKHOUNDING
Idaho is truly the Gem State. Since the origin of the earth, geologic processes combined to make the rocks of Idaho a mineral collectors storehouse. This, coupled with the beautiful forests and streams, makes Idaho the place where the rock collectors dreams come true.
Idaho is known for its variety of gems, such as garnet, opal, jade, topaz, zircon, agates, tourmaline, star garnets, fossils, and more.
Forests and streams are generally the best places to rockhound in Idaho.
Idaho certainly has a variety of rocks, crystals, and gemstones that would interest any rockhound. From diamonds, rubies, emeralds, gold, and sapphires to geodes, topaz, turquoise, opals, obsidian, amethyst, agates, jades, jasper, garnets, quartz crystals, and petrified wood. Idaho is well known for its meteorite specimens, arrowheads, and fossils as well. The official state gemstone is the star garnet since 1967.
BOISE COUNTY: Boise County was established on February 4, 1864, with its county seat at Idaho City. It was named for the Boise River, which was named by French-Canadian explorers and trappers for the great variety of trees growing along its banks in the lower desert valley. The Boise Basin, in which Idaho City lies, was one of the richest gold mining districts in the nation. Gold was discovered in 1862 and more of it was pulled from present-day Boise County than from the entire state of Alaska. At its peak in the mid-1860s, Idaho City was the largest city in the Northwest, and it was this rapid population influx that lead to the establishment of the Idaho Territory in 1863.
The County continues to produce modern-day treasures in the form of outstanding recreational opportunities, top-notch mountainous scenery, world class whitewater rivers, historic towns, festivals, annual and one-of-a kind events as well as an abundance of lodging and dining venues.
IDAHO CITY
Idaho City was once the largest mining community in the Pacific Northwest during the gold rush about 150 years ago. It was even bigger than Portland, Oregon at the time with about 7,000 residents. Today, you can explore the remnants of the old western town as well as the picturesque Sawtooth Mountains. There are so many fun things to do in Idaho City, making it a fun day trip or weekend trip from the Boise area.
The downtown area is a combination of historic sites as well as charming local shops. You can easily spend half a day browsing the local shops and grabbing a bite to eat.
The Historic District is in the heart of downtown. There are a handful of historic buildings like the old jail, the Boise Basin Museum, and courthouse as well as a bunch of old farm equipment. There is a fun boardwalk that will take you by most of the 14 historical sites, making it easy to imagine what life was like in the 1800s.

Boise is a recreationalist's paradise. If you value the outdoors and time spent among rivers, mountains, canyons, deserts and lakes and all the activities encapsulated therein it's worth a serious look.
Downtown Boise is booming. New construction is all over the area. The Zions Bank building, completed in 2014, is the tallest building in the state and sits at the city's center. Currently this property is Ag land and is irrigated. It comes with 55 +/- shares of surface irrigation water and is producing alfalfa. The irrigation water has pressurized delivery. The property sits adjacent to southbound Interstate 15 and has excellent exposure. Could potentially be used as commercial or residential, perhaps single and/or multi-family dwellings. Malad is growing and for decades there has been a serious shortage of rental units. Malad City itself seems to be pro growth and is pretty willing to help developers in their endeavors to grow our economy, in the form of business and housing, in a responsible way.
