Park County - 23138 County Road 59, Hartsel, CO
The Elk Mountain Cattle Ranch consists of approximately 120,000 total acres of which approximately 30,000 are deeded and approximately 90,000 are leased. The ranch falls entirely within Colorado's three largest intermontane grassland basins. "South Park" consists of nearly 1,000 square miles and has a history rich with ranching. So much so that Congress designated it a National Heritage area in 2009- one of only fifty five in the United States of America.
Ranch headquarters is at 8,800 feet above sea level in the Town of Hartsel in Park County. Within two hours of the ranch are Colorado's two most populous cities- Denver and Colorado Springs. Each feature international commercial and private airports.
The ranch is cradled by 72 million year old 14,000 foot peaks and is located at the headwaters of the South Platte River. Within the borders of the ranch are over 30 miles of named rivers and creeks and over 6,000 surface acres of stored South Platte River water for front range Colorado supply in both Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile Canyon Reservoirs.
The current cow calf operation consists of approximately 1,200 mother cows plus bulls and 500 pair of bison plus bulls. The ranch is run by the four generation family that began assembling it 40 years ago. They live on the ranch in it's five ranch homes each between three and five bedrooms. Unique to the operation is a water right for 81 acre feet of water out of Spinney Mountain Reservoir.
The hunting and angling on the ranch is spectacular featuring Boone and Crockett pronghorn, trophy mule deer and elk hunting. Some of the six ponds on the ranch have been stocked and the Middle Fork of the South Platte River presents an opportunity to improve aquatic habitat for over 3 miles of private fly fishing.
Elk Mountain Cattle Ranch has never before been offered for sale to the market and represents a significant and incredibly diverse investment offered in whole or parts. Please contact Michael Ledger at 303.596.8898 with questions and please visit the Confluence Land website for complete details on this offering including a complete brochure and ranch videos.

We feel we are selling more than the gold and minerals on beautiful land.
You would be acquiring an experience that will give you a good feel for what the old time prospectors must have felt during the days of the original Colorado Gold Rush.
A mining claim is an affordable way to enjoy the beauty of the land combined with the adventure of panning for gold.
Owning a mining claim is having access to a lifetime of great family fun and recreation, in a very beautiful, natural setting.
National Forests remained open at all times during the virus with a televised invitation by the Director for families to visit them as safe places for family recreation, making our mining claims some of the safest places for your family to enjoy and get away from all the nonsense.
There is a vein of a valuable minerals running thru the whole claim, in this case, quartz, gold, smoky quartz and fluorite.
You can also prospect on the whole claim, including the claim ridges for gems outside the lode mineral vein.
A lode claim has the most potential for finding valuable minerals.
A lode claim differs from our placer claims, as on a lode claim you can dig into the mountain side and can even go to the extent of building a mine shaft.
Having a lode claim is an advantage as you can dig into the claim with a shaft if you choose,
and the nearby creek has some good trout fishing.
Our lode claim has veins of valuable minerals including gold in veins (called lodes) cutting thru rocks.
Quartz and gold are frequently found together and digging into the quartz vein is called chasing the vein.
Veins of quartz, smoky quartz, and fluorite are on the claim.
According to geologists, lode gold deposits are present in many of this areas mountain sides.
The area once prospected by early settlers, these mountains are still considered to contain lode gold.
This area known as South Park is an all season area for outdoor activities in a valley surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.

The process of lode, hard rock mining, is the process where gold is extracted directly from the lode vein beneath the ground. Dig down about 3 feet as go through the claim, then pick, shovel, and rock hammer working the sides of that hole. Filling in the holes when leave the claim as required by the national forest.
For the use of any machinery, you need to file a Plan of Operation with the BLM for approval.
Scratch your rock ore against an unglazed white ceramic streak plate.
If it's gold, it will leave a golden streak. Or scratch the surface of the specimen with a knife. Gold is a soft metal that will show scratch marks.
The largest nugget unearthed from this area and possibly all of Colorado, was discovered just north of our claim. It weighs an exceptional 9.3 pounds and is referred to as Toms Baby. This Nugget is the centerpiece of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science Mineral Collection, and can still be viewed and enjoyed today at the museum.
Rockhounding in Colorado
Starting with the rich gold and silver deposits which were the starting point of so many Colorado towns, the Centennial State, with over 770 types of minerals to be found, is second only to California in the number of different gems and minerals statewide.
Colorado is also host to a dizzying array of rocks and minerals. Some of the higher profile include dinosaur fossils.
Colorado can certainly be considered a rockhound and gem hunters dream.
The vast mountains of national forests gives one a newfound sense of exploration and discovery.
This claim is less than an hour from where the TV show Gold Rush was filmed on location at the Todd Hoffman mining claim near Fairplay.
Park County has miles of ATV and snowmobile trails to add to your mining claim experience.
Another good sign for our claims here are the other experienced prospectors who have claims in this area before us.
The discovery of gold in 1859 brought thousands of prospectors to this exact area.
A new mining camp called Fair Play was established. Be a part of your own gold prospecting journey in having your own mining claim as those who came before you.
It is a little known fact that Park County contains the highest gold and silver mines in North America. It also contains some of the highest historic ranches and a wealth of historic railroad sites. Some working ranches in the region provide accommodations and access to private fishing. Mountain Star Ranch near Guffey is the quintessential Colorado mountain ranch. The centerpiece is a secluded, five-bedroom, 6,500 square foot log home in a beautiful Rocky Mountain valley. The private mile-long drive winds through aspen and ponderosa pines and is secured by two electronic gates. This stunning log home is built of Montana pine logs, which enclose a living area with large open spaces, vaulted ceilings, soaring floor-to-ceiling windows, stained glass, and an inside pond and waterfall. An architecturally unique covered walkway connects the house with the barn, once featured in Horse Connection Magazine as one of the best private horse barns in the country. A huge, attached, tall-ceiling garage can hold multiple vehicles and motorized toys. A separate detached garage is a great place to store more vehicles or a ranch tractor. Down the hill from the house is a workshop that can be used for any endeavor the new owner wishes.Mountain Star Ranch lies in the eighteen-parcel ranch Aspen Mountain Ranch subdivision, of which Mountain Star comprises seven parcels. The ranch borders approximately 16,000 contiguous acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and is one of only two ranches in Aspen Mountain to have vehicular access to this land. The public must access this BLM acreage via foot or horseback over very rugged terrain. Elk and mule deer hunting is excellent on the ranch and the adjoining public land. Located in a draw-only GMU 58, the ranch gets four Landowner Preference (LOP) Draw applications per species. The owners may also participate in the public draw for additional tags..Two small creeks feed a pond in the meadow portion of the ranch, an ideal location to graze a few cattle or horses. The ranch is strategically located an hour and fifteen minutes from Breckenridge, 30 minutes to gold medal flyfishing on either the South Platte or Arkansas River, and 45 minutes to either Cripple Creek, Canyon City, or Woodland Park. The Colorado Springs airport is 90 minutes from the ranch gate.
